May, 2019 Events:
Practical Art Presents
“Foremothers” an exhibition of new collaborative work with Jane Kelsey-Mapel and Becky Frehse
May 1 – 31, 2019 Artists’ Reception Friday, May 3rd, 7 – 9 p.m.
Foremothers is an homage to the artists’ mothers and grandmothers who left behind drawers full of wonderful “stuff” for them to sort through and repurpose as figurative idols. Jane and Becky collaborate by collecting and making “parts” in their separate studios followed by working together to create original pieces. The assemblages they created for Foremothers incorporate ceramic faces and aprons, family photos, vintage linens with lace and needle work, old boxes and doll parts, costume jewelry, and more. Although Becky lives in Tacoma, Washington and Jane lives in Phoenix, they have been collaborating since 2012 when they created an exhibit together in Seattle called ReConfigured. They are excited to collaborate on Foremothers, their third exhibition at Practical Art!
